European Junior Open 2016

We are delighted that three of Alloa Golf Club’s junior golfers recently played in one of the most prestigious junior events in Europe. Previous competitors in the event have included Luke Donald, Justin Rose and more recently Danny Willet.

The Juniors’ who qualified were; Bryce Clark, Ross Logan and Tom Humphreys pictured below (L-R).

The boys finished in the top two placings in regional events held across the UK to progress to the champions’ week finals in Spain. The competition is open to individuals and to golf clubs which can each nominate up to six juniors to enter the competition.

Bryce earned his place at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, Porthcawl, in September, which was the venue for this year’s Welsh Open Amateur Championship. Tom and Ross both qualified at Longhirst Hall Golf Club in Northumberland in October, to complete the qualifying hat-trick for our club. The boys travelled to Spain at the end of November to play in the event at Alcaidesa Links and Heathland Golf courses. They played extremely well over the course of the week against a strong field of well supported players from across the UK and Europe.

This was a great experience for the boys and an outstanding achievement to complete a very successful year for our juniors.

We are extremely proud of all three who competed, and not just for the standard of golf they produced, but also the way in which they presented themselves to other competitors and officials. I am sure you will join both myself and Malky Clark in congratulating the boys for their magnificent achievement for both themselves and for Alloa Golf Club. Their success was also recently covered by the Scottish Golf website.

Well done boys.

William Logan
